Created at KCAI, this project asked us to take a selection of Gertrude Stein’s poems and find a meaning within her words that spoke to us. We were then to create a printed book of her poems that expressed that meaning and concept typographically.
My concept was that the act of writing a poem is an attempt to hold on to certain moments or memories, which are very fleeting and fragile things. In the creation of this book, I used velum to print out lines of the poem so as you continue to read and turn the pages, the words slowly disappear to capture that passage of time.
